Dear colleague

I am a research psychologist originally from the UK but now living in Belgium for the last 10 years. I have an interest in neurodiversity and in particular tics and Tourette syndrome.

I’m also the secretary for the ASBL here in Belgium which is called Iktic-Jetique www.iktic.be we hope to provide information on training so that there is better awareness of tics and Tourette syndrome here in Belgium with the aim of improving treatment and support for those people affected. You may already be aware that Tourette syndrome is in fact not rare with 1% of the population having this condition that is one in 100 school children. This is the same prevalence as childhood epilepsy or autism. Another issue around to it syndrome is that it is rarely found on its own. Instead 80% of those patients also have a Co occurring conditions such as ADHD OCD or anxiety.

An exciting piece of news is that myself and the ASBL are the host organisers for the European Society for the study of Tourette syndrome (ESSTS) https://www.essts.org which is being held this year in Brussels from the 7th to 9th of June at the Africa museum. Please see the attached advert. We would be delighted to see you at this event and would ask you to kindly circulate this advert as widely as possible. The ticket sales for this event will be available on the ESSTS’s website in the coming days.

I hope you will be able to add to your calendars and disseminate widely to colleagues?

I really hope that we can make contact with one another and that I can support you in your work while increasing the understanding and awareness of Tourette syndrome in Belgium.

Many thanks and looking forward to hearing from you

kind regards

Dr Seonaid Anderson
